Why your intuition matters more than your Provider, a thought thread.
Whether it is your first or your tenth baby, not every prenatal and postpartum journey will be the same. Why is "my body, my choice" shoved down our society's throat, (side note, if you were not aware I believe valuable life begins at conception, then look out) all but when it comes to their birth, breastfeeding, or childrearing choices, it becomes "your Provider knows best"? After all, they completed all that schooling and are double board certified (do you hear my sarcasm?). I am not saying that schooling is not valuable, I'm saying education needs to be paired with results and real time assessment and care plans that work.
You have endlessly scrolled Reddit, google reviews, asked around, did late night google searches to find answers for the issue you are having, but then when you meet your Provider, you are told things such as "things will get better with time, or some women can't breastfeed, or you are too sensitive". Being in the ball game for a while now, I can't count the times I have heard moms tell me they were gaslight into formula, vaccines, sleep training and totally bogus attachment theories.
I'm extremely tired of the non-sense. When will Providers start listening to their patients? When will they replace practices from the Revolutional age and start viewing moms and babies as a beautiful, harmonious relationship (yes this includes breastfeeding). Breastfeeding and child rearing is supposed to be a life changing journey, where you give your baby's needs and give your body for their benefit before your own. It's meant to be a refining, changing journey. Am I saying that you don't take care of yourself? Absolutely not. A well balanced nervous system directly impacts your baby's nervous system, so yes stay well balanced (If you need ideas to regulate your nervous system along with your baby's, contact me).
That's another reason I have been silent on social media lately, it seems that influencers' voices have drowned out most of the real help that women and babies need and replacing it with a 1,2,3 step, this is how you fix your baby. I am not saying there are not some incredible resources on social media (shoutout to AZ Breastfed Babies) where they have acccuate, up to date informmation that is easy to digest but also stress the importance of meeting with skilled IBCLCs, Chiropractors, and bodyworkers to get to the root issues.
But that's not me. Changing the local architecture and attitudes around me is the most important change maker for me. Educating local Providers, and giving mothers and babies the best possible care is the biggest change I can make. That's why I am so happy to announce my latest training adventures so I can be the best Provider my area can offer, helping make more regulated mom's and babies and seeing the interconnectedness of breastfeeding and your baby.
